Routine workplace safety inspection procedure covering hazard identification, equipment checks, emergency preparedness, and corrective actions.
Purpose
Maintain a safe work environment by regularly identifying and correcting workplace hazards before they cause injuries or regulatory violations.

Prepare for Inspection
Review the previous inspection report. Gather checklist, PPE, and camera. Review recent incident/near-miss reports. Notify area supervisors.

Walking Surfaces & Egress
Inspect all walking surfaces, aisles, and emergency egress routes for trip/slip hazards, clear egress paths, illuminated exit signs, and stairway safety.

- Floors clean, dry, and hazard-free
- Aisles clear and at required width
- Emergency exits unobstructed and marked
- Exit signs illuminated
- Emergency lighting functional
- Stairways have handrails and non-slip treads
Expected Output
Walking surfaces and egress routes inspected.
Fire Safety & Emergency Equipment
Check fire extinguishers (location, tags, pressure), smoke detectors, fire alarm pull stations, sprinkler clearance, first aid kits, and AEDs. Verify evacuation plan is posted.

- Pressure gauges in green zone
- Smoke detectors functional

Electrical Safety
Check for damaged cords, overloaded outlets, daisy-chained power strips, missing covers, exposed wiring. Verify electrical panel clearance and GFCI function in wet areas.

- No overloaded outlets or daisy-chained power strips
- All outlet and switch covers in place
- Electrical panels have 36" clearance
- GFCIs installed in wet areas and tested

Ergonomics & Workstation Safety
Review workstation setups for ergonomic hazards: monitor height, chair adjustment, keyboard position, anti-fatigue mats, and proper lifting aids and material storage.
Checklist
- Computer monitors at eye level
- Chairs adjustable and properly adjusted
- Keyboard/mouse positioned for neutral wrist posture
- Anti-fatigue mats for standing workstations
- Heavy items stored at waist height
- Lifting aids available where needed
Expected Output
Ergonomic hazards identified. Workstation improvements recommended.
Chemical & Hazardous Material Safety
Verify SDS availability, chemical container labeling, compatibility-based storage, flammable storage cabinets, spill kits, and appropriate PPE and ventilation.

- SDS accessible for all chemicals on-site
- All containers properly labeled
- Chemicals stored by compatibility
- Flammable storage cabinet used
- Spill kits available and stocked
- PPE available for chemical use
- Ventilation adequate in chemical areas
Expected Output
Chemical safety reviewed. SDS availability and storage compliance documented.
Document Findings & Assign Corrective Actions
Complete the inspection report. For each hazard, assign severity (Imminent Danger, Serious, Other-Than-Serious), a responsible person, and a deadline. Schedule follow-up verification.
